The Pagosa Springs Photography Club will hold its August meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Community United Methodist Church on Lewis Street.
Join us for socializing at 6 p.m., followed by a brief business meeting at 6:30 p.m.
The August Photography Club program will be presented by June Russell. She will show and discuss pictures taken during a three-month cruise from Tokyo to London.
Russell has been involved with artistic interests since childhood, when she painted, played piano and sang. These took a back seat as she attained a BS in chemistry and MBA and ABD in organization behavior. She has worked as a technical troubleshooter; sales representative; a management consultant in productivity improvement and interpersonal relationships; an adjunct professor in organization behavior; and a professional musician, playing piano, guitar and singing in restaurants and lounges around the country.
Twenty years ago, Russell returned to art with photography. She attended classes, went on photo expeditions and has traveled to some of the most striking natural settings in the world. Her early work was based on the beauty of the natural world. Currently, she is working on two series: “Soft” is based on abstract macro images, while “Visible Frequencies” focuses on abstract images from artificial light sources.
Russell has had seven solo shows and has been participating in numerous juried group shows. She has made presentations to art groups in Texas, Colorado and aboard a ship. Her work is included in collections around the country, and she has published one book: “Natural Beauties, Beyond the Petals.”
She serves on the board of directors for Women in the Visual and Literary Arts (WIVLA) and was previously on its advisory board. During her musical life, she sang with the Houston Symphony Chorus for 12 years and performed seven shows with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston.
Feel free to bring 10-15 pictures you would like us to view and critique on a flash drive. Longtime photographers and those just starting out are welcome.
