July Photo Club Topic: Metal Prints

The Pagosa Springs Photography Club will hold its regular monthly meeting Wednesday evening, July 8, 2015 at the Quality Resort. Join us for socializing at 6:00 PM (drinks and appetizers are available for purchase), followed by the program and short business meeting at 6:30 PM. The Photography Club will continue to meet the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 PM at the Quality Resort.

The July meeting will be presented by club member Joseph T. Sinclair. Joe will be speaking about metal prints, which he first saw at a photo exhibit in Napa, California. The metal prints seemed to make the colors and images really pop. Since then Joe has experimented with a dozen metal prints of his own, visited the photo service where metal prints were invented in California, and has made two non-experimental fine art metal prints that have turned out very well and are hanging in his home. He expects to do all his prints on metal in the future. Members are encouraged to bring 10-15 photographs of recent photo opportunities on a flash drive or CD, for review and discussion, time permitting.

Photography enthusiasts at all levels of ability are invited to attend Club meetings at no charge for the first meeting. If interested, you are invited to join for annual dues of $25 for individuals, $35 for a family membership, and $10 for a student membership.

Photo Club Bachelor Loop Outing

The Photo Club Creede/Bachelor Loop outing will be held Saturday, June 20. Please email me directly (Andy, at abutler@mac.com) if you are interested in going. Bachelor Loop is a 17 mile drive (rough, narrow, steep, but not 4WD) which passes several old mine sites, including the Last Chance mine, the almost-gone ghost town of Bachelor, scenic vistas and the Creede cometary. We will stop at these sites and do photography from near the road, so there should not be too much walking involved. We may also visit attractions in Creede itself, including the old railroad depot housing the history museum, and other historic buildings. Let’s meet at 8:30 AM to allow for the drive over to Creede. With the drive over and time for photography, plan on this taking most of the day. I’ll send more information to those who express an interest in the trip. Let me know if you are interested; as the trip will be weather-dependent.

Recommendations on camera equipment and photographic approach while traveling will be discussed as well. Members are encouraged to bring 10-15 photographs of recent photo opportunities on a flash drive or CD, for review and discussion, time permitting.

Waterfall Day!

On May 29,  we will have a Club outing to concentrate on photographing waterfalls. First up will be Pagosa Springs’ iconic Treasure Falls. Although some photos can be taken from the parking area, there are a couple of closer vantages which are well worth hiking to. It’s about a half mile round trip on trail up to the bridge area. We will then visit a few falls along Wolf Creek, closer to the pass. These will require short off-trail walks to get to. Let’s meet at 9:30 in the old Alco parking lot at the west end of the City Market complex. Plan to wear good walking shoes and dress for the weather; include a jacket to protect you from spray from the falls. A tripod is highly recommended. Please let me know if you plan to come, as the trip will be weather dependent (abutler@mac.com).

April Meeting-Canceled

The Quality Resort will be doing remodeling in April which will preclude our use of the room we normally meet in. Therefor,  we have decided to cancel the April Meeting and resume in May. We encourage everyone to take advantage of the of the time off to get out and take beautiful photographs in preparation for future meetings. The May Program will be presented by Michael Rudd and the June Program will be devoted entirely to review and discussion of member photos (plus selection of a Best Photo of the meeting and two runners-up).

Our regular weekly Kaffee Klatsches will continue throughout for those of you in the vicinity of Pagosa Springs. Come on out and keep up with us at these informal get-togethers.
